The
strange tale of one man's life without any real identity other than the
characters that he played. Peter Sellers didn't exactly have a normal
life, every aspect of it was comedic in aspects. His parents were
actors and it seemed that Peter would be headed that way as well one
day. After he returned from the war he started up a radio group called
'The Goons'. And from there he pushed himself into the movie industry
where he so desperately wanted to go. Thoughout his short life he made
a big splash when he played the role of a man named Clouseau in the
Pink Panther movies which shot him to stardom. Not to mention his
multi-roled film Dr. Strangelove which would never have worked without
his talented voices, accents and sense for strange characters. His life
seemed to be unstable and very self centered but deep down there is a
frightened man who never wanted responsibility which is shown by
leaving his first wife, Anne, and two children then with his second
wife, Britt Ekland, became scared when she was pregnant with their
first and only child. He grew old and alone inside and the laughter
never stopped for the audience but sadly Peter met an unfortunate end
with a heart attack on the day he was to sign the divorce papers with
his fourth wife.
This movie was a fantastic opportunity for Geoffrey Rush to show his
talent by giving one great impression of Peter Sellers. Most actors in
the movie give subpar performances leaving Rush to rock the boat and
even give better performances as other people in the movie including
his mother and wife. I wouldn't say that this movie is for everyone but
I would say that if you know the work of Peter Sellers this version of
his life on film is definitely worth a watch.
